Health Insurance Features to Look For
We strongly suggest you purchase health insurance to protect yourself or your family from the unknown risks which may await. Having the proper medical insurance should be on the top of your to-do list. We've listed some of the top features to consider when choosing the right plan during your travel.
Type of Plan & Coverage
We suggest you or your family look into which type of coverage best suits your needs. For individuals who are below 50 years of age and do not have pre-existing conditions, we highly recommend getting a high deductible, fixed-benefit plan. These plans are lower in cost & provide a decent amount of coverage when you need it. These plans are best for medical emergencies. Essentially, they cover the risk of a low-probability, high-cost medical event quite well.
For individuals who above 50 years of age & do have pre-existing conditions, we highly recommend enrolling in comprehensive plan either a low or high deductible plan, with pre-existing coverage of at least $10,000, & a high coverage maximum. Comprehensive coverage will provide additional benefits by paying most (if not all) of the medical bills during a given medical event. Most comprehensive plans work with a PPO network- meaning they will offer discounted, pre-negotiated rates for medical services.
Coverage should be the most important feature when choosing which plan to purchase. Coverage is not a amount of money or "benefits." Coverage is "what will the insruance company pay for if you or your visitor gets sick." Often times, people purchase the cheapest visitors insurance possible, with a coverage maximum for $1,000,000 or $2,000,000. The reason these plans can offer such high policy maximums is because they lack "coverage." They often won't cover needed and necessary medical expenses when the time comes. We suggest taking a close look at each policy's list of exclusions to make sure you know what you are paying for. We recommend purchasing transparent policies with little to no exclusions.
Cost is an important factor when determining the right health insurance plan for you. Cost is determined by age, duration of coverage, and pre-existing conditions. Typically, coverage for pre-existing conditions increases the cost of the health insurance, although there are some affordable options (see INF Choice). Purchasing the right plan is heavily depending on your own assessment of risk. What is the risk of you or your visitor needing to visit the doctor for a minor illness, or needing a emergency room visit? INF Visitor Care Plans offer great features not available in many other health insurance plans. Not only do INF Plans provide cheaper health insurance alternatives with lower deductibles, but these feature rich programs are designed to save insured members money. For example, some INF Visitor Care plans come with Teladoc- a feature which allows you to recieve medical care from the comfort of your own home & at a lower cost! Moreover, all INF Visitor Care Plans include Dental, Vision, Prescription, & Hearing Discount coverage provided by Careington International- all at no additional cost!
We recommend purchasing policies that allow you to renew the policy online, and have a minimum enrollment limit of at least 12 months or 364 days. Often, individuals mistakenly purchase insurance programs which do not allow renewal. It is important to have the option to renewal your policy. Moreover, if you or your family experiences a major medical event during their stay, an extension of coverage will not classify the condition as a pre-existing. Moreover, premiums and rates stay the same regardless if you have used your insurance or not.
